First Time Buyer's guide
If you are considering purchasing a pre-engineered building for the first time, here are some helpful hints:
Step 1: Decide on a design - Look through our WEB Buildings and pictures for Ideas. Then you can select a WEB building design or ask us to make a custom design for you. Once your building has been purchased and erected, it is too late to change your mind. We can design buildings with masonry walls, mezzanines, fascia systems, cranes or hangar doors. Take your time and select a building that will best fit your needs. If you have any questions, just pick the phone and give us a call.
Step 2: Talk to your building department. While we are familiar with the different building codes throughout the U.S., the Caribbean and even Latin America, often times, changes in the local code can occur without knowledge. It is important that you speak with a plans examiner and find out the following information:
Building
Code and Year
Wind Load
Live Load (is tributary reduction allowed?)
Snow Load
Seismic Zone or Coefficients
Importance Factors for Wind and Snow
(See
Nomenclature for help with terms)
It is also important to determine whether there are any special ordinances that
would prevent you from having metal siding on your building. Many
residential or downtown areas have restrictions. Also find out what will
be needed in order to obtain your building permit. Your building
department may want us to provide sealed plans and calculations to review before
they will allow you to break ground. If you do not hold a general
contractor's license let the plans examiner know. You may not be allowed
to pull a permit in certain areas without hiring a contractor. Remember,
it is your responsibility to provide us with the correct building code
information.
Step 3: Order. When you are ready to place an order, give us a call or send us a fax or e-email. The manager for your district will personally review the details of your order, answer any questions that you may have, and send you a purchase order. There will be several documents for you to review and complete. Then just mail us you signed order with a 20% down payment and we will begin fabrication.
